Kid Cudi’s new Shia LaBeouf-directed video made me roll my eyes a little, because, this grainy-video-smoking-pot thing is starting to get a bit old. Rapping/singing about drug use in home-made style videos is the hipster equivalent of pouring champagne over a video chick in a club. Bling Rims & Tits = House parties Drugs & Tits. While braggadacio is an important, historical and fun part of hip-hop, old school or new wave its all the same: overt or subtle gratuity – whatever. Yawn.
